കേരളത്തിലെ ഓട്ടോ ഡ്രൈവറുടെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിൽ അദ്ഭുതപ്പെട്ട് വിദേശ ടൂറിസ്റ്റ്. ഫോർട്ട് കൊച്ചിയിലെ ഓട്ടോ ഡ്രൈവർ അഷ്റഫിനെ കുറിച്ച് യുകെ ട്രാവലറും വ്ളോഗറുമായ സാക്കിയാണ് ഇൻസ്റ്റഗ്രാമിൽ വീഡിയോ പങ്കുവെച്ചത്. ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് പൊരിവെയിലിൽ എടിഎം എവിടെയാണുള്ളത് എന്നറിയാതെ വിഷമിച്ചുനിന്ന തന്നെ സഹായിച്ചത് അഷ്റഫാണെന്നും സാക്കി വീഡിയോയിൽ പറയുന്നു.
റൂം ബുക്ക് ചെയ്തു ഹോട്ടലിൽ കാർഡ് എടുക്കാത്തതിനെ തുടർന്നാണ് സാക്കിക്ക് എടിഎം അന്വേഷിച്ച് നടക്കേണ്ടി വന്നത്. ഇതിനിടയിൽ അഷ്റഫിനെ കണ്ടുമുട്ടുകയായിരുന്നു. കാഴ്ച്ചകൾ കാണാൻ ഓട്ടോയിൽ കൊണ്ടുപോകാം എന്ന് അഷ്റഫ് സാക്കിയോട് ഇംഗ്ലീഷിൽ പറഞ്ഞു. എന്നാൽ തനിക്ക് അത്യാവശ്യമായി കണ്ടുപിടിക്കേണ്ടത് ഒരു എടിഎമ്മാണെന്ന് സാക്കി മറുപടി നൽകി. ഇതോടെ ഓട്ടോയിൽ കയറ്റി എടിഎമ്മുള്ളിടത്തേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോകാം എന്ന് അഷ്റഫ് പറഞ്ഞു.

I was really struggling with the midday heat when an auto driver called out to me on the road in #india. The problem was that the hotel I’d booked-which won’t be visiting again-card machine stopped
working so they told me to go to an ATM. I had no idea where the ATM was so I embarked on the main road that leads to Fort Kochi but I really
wasn’t in the best condition for it. Ashraf noticed me and called out asking if I needed a ride. At first, I was hesitant but after a brief conversation realized he was friendly and the heat was getting to me. Since I knew he had local knowledge, it made
sense to just go with it though I was uneasy about
being told the ATM wasn’t working
It might have been true that it wasn’t working but I’m aware enough that sometimes there are tricks at play. I had been in the country long enough to have picked up my own local knowledge. So when we drove past the SBI ATM and I saw that it was relatively busy I called out that there was an ATM but
he was adamant that it didn’t work.
It must have been broken for a short time period
because later in the day, I got more money out of it.
But regardless, Ashraf spoke the best English I’ve heard from an auto driver in India and made surprisingly good conversation. I only say this because there have been severe enough language barriers with auto drivers to the point where I was constantly unable to get a ride so I started using Uber. In all fairness to Ashraf, he is clearly a hard working man and generally was very honest. I asked him not to wait for me outside the ATM even though he clearly wanted to take me sightseeing and he fully honoured my request: when I left the ATM, he had
gone.

ശരിയായിരിക്കുമെന്ന് കരുതി കൂടെപ്പോകുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്നും സാക്കി വീഡിയോക്കൊപ്പം പങ്കുവെച്ച നീണ്ട കുറിപ്പിൽ പറയുന്നു.
